Does Bayan need an internet connection?
No. The whole library, the dictionary and فال حافظ are stored on your device and work in airplane mode, on a plane or underground.
The one exception is Cloud Analysis, which sends a poem to a server to be interpreted. It is off by default and has to be turned on deliberately in Settings.
Do I need an account? What does Bayan cost?
No account, no sign-in, no password to lose. Your bookmarks and reading history live on your device only.
Bayan is free, with no in-app purchase and no subscription. Bookmarks are unlimited. See pricing for the whole of it.
Literary analysis says I've reached a daily limit
Analyses are capped at 10 a day for every reader, because each one is generated fresh for the poem in front of you and costs real compute. Nothing lifts the cap — it is not a paid tier.
The allowance resets 24 hours after the first analysis in that window. Re-opening a poem you have already analysed is free and does not spend another.
On-device analysis is unavailable on my iPhone
On-device analysis runs on Apple Intelligence, which needs all of the following:
- iOS 26 or later (iPadOS 26 on iPad)
- An Apple Intelligence–capable iPhone or iPad
- Apple Intelligence switched on in Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri
- Its model finished downloading — this happens in the background and can take a while on a slow connection
If your device cannot run it, Cloud Analysis is the alternative and can be enabled in Bayan's Settings.
A translation or analysis looks wrong
Please report it. Every analysis screen has a flag control that sends the report without identifying you, and translations can be reported by email with the poem's title.
Analyses are machine-generated and labelled as such. They are an aid to reading a difficult text, not a scholarly edition, and they are wrong often enough to be worth checking against one.
My bookmarks or reading history disappeared
Because Bayan has no accounts, everything you save is stored on the device itself and is not synced to a server or to another phone. Deleting the app deletes it all, and it cannot be recovered afterwards.
If bookmarks vanished without the app being deleted, that is a bug worth hearing about — please write in.
The Persian text renders oddly or too small
Pinch to zoom on any poem, or set a size in Settings → Font Size. Bayan sets Persian in a Nastaliq face, which is taller and more cursive than a Latin one and reads better a step or two larger than you might expect.
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Clear History removes your reading history, and deleting the app removes everything else it stored.
There is nothing held on a server to delete, because nothing is sent to one. The privacy policy sets out the whole picture, including the one narrow exception for Cloud Analysis.
Reporting a bug
The fastest fixes come from reports that include these four things:
- What you did, step by step, and what you expected instead
- Your iOS version and device model (Settings → General → About)
- Bayan's version, from the app's Settings → About
- A screenshot, if the problem is something you can see
